i love the last weekend in the month - not only do i get my lovely paycheck but it's the time that my excessive amount of magazine subscriptions arrive (The Works, Attitude, Q, SFX, Details, Blender) and i get to do an awful lot of reading... here is what i have learnt so far from said mags...but not before a random pic of last nights drinking buddies Liam and Bernice!

  • The Scissor Sisters are media whores. And probably just whores in general. That is why i love them so much...
  • Ana Matronic is dating the younger brother of the lead singer of Deee-lite who i have always thought were the early 90s version of the scissters. Does that make her incestuous??
  • Kiss You Off ~ an Ana led track ~ and Just Might Tell You Tonight are apparently the stand out tracks from Ta-Dah
  • Check out the myspace site of new french dandies group Rock and Roll. They are quite possibly quite good. Well they were last night when i was drunk on tia maria and orange juice...
  • There is a new clothing store called Kangaroo Poo. I am literally flabbergasted...
  • L'il gay Aaron, formerly of boyband V, gives his take in Attitude on what its like being a nancy in the "hetero" world of teeny pop... quite brillo!
  • "I think that the greatest disco is melancholy. Its about a longing for something... it's about remembering why you were upset and turning that into something beautiful" ~ Babydaddy
  • Pet Shop Boys (Introspective), Madonna (erotica) and Kylie (light years) are numbers 11,7 and 4 retrospectively on the gayest albums of all time list behind a top three that features Morrissey (Vauxhall and I), Abba (Arrival) and the scissor sisters...
  • "I met the pet shop boys the other week and told them what a huge influence they were on me. Neil said ' that's funny because you don't sound anything like us!' " ~ Dan Gillespie Sells (Feeling)
  • Apparently the Nu-Gay music scene is led by Dangerous Muse, Lo-Fi-Fnk, Le Sport and er... Final Fantasy
  • Singer songwriters are taking over the world according to Q Mag...and its all david grays fault. Bastard ;)

And with that in mind, here are some of my fave current singer songwriters in "action"...

MP3: Nerina Pallot - All Good People acoustic (right click)
MP3: James Morrison - It's Too Late (right click)
MP3: Deborah Gibson - Portrait of Lonliness (right click)
MP3: James Blunt - High acoustic (right click)

ooh this blog post is chock full and value added! When will Ta-Dah leak? Methinks only days before release. Now that I have Bertine to live for it will ease the pain of the waiting game.

"Rock And Roll" - gee what a great name to pick so that everyone can google you and find info on you! Geezy peezy!

Oh sweetie! I just got back from Undercover Surrealism at The Hayward Gallery with RobPop. Very brilliant. Sadly it was the last day of the exiibition. Loads of Picasso, Dali and Bataille. Didnt manage to pick up Attitude ANYWHERE so thanks on the heads up. Light Years is a brilliant gay album. Iconic infact. Other acts have now been replicating it ever since (see Geri, Rachel Stevens, Scissor Sisters, Madonna, Goldfrapp & possibly/hopefully Kylies 10th studio album out next year)

However, Paul the James Blunt inclusion worries me. He is a cunt of high proportions.

I blame everything on him. My weight gain, the crisis in the Middle East, death of pop and quite naturally world poverty. Remove his existence immediately.

xo - i had only read attitude and a bit of q when i posted this blog so there will probably be lots more tidbits throughout the week :) Rock and Roll is a great name for a band... i am unconvinced in the sober light of hangeroversville as to whether they are a great band...

who knows when ta-dah will leak. i will be quite happy to wait though :)

Ella, you have weight gain? As if...i can't wait for a new kylie album. Light Years remains my favourite ever album of hers and one of my favourite albums ever. Balls to the wall full of joy and dance and love and spirit. Not many people agree with me on this but i think had it been marketed correctly and had major label support Deb Gibsons MYOB (released around the same time) cd could have been equally as iconic. Will post why later in the week...

ps darling sweet ella, please try and overlook my clear mental problems that cause me to like james blunt despite several interventions from friends. i think its a rare blip in an otherwise gaytastic existence.

Dad - sorry you saw the word cunt in my blog notes. Twice now, clearly. It means they are not very good...

aww ickle Aaron, His piece was an interesting insight into 'V' life, I did feel sorry for him, but at the end of the day it was his decision - he really wanted the pop career and thought that was the only way to get it, where as Kevin went in all guns a blazin' and did both - and got a very rich popstar bf into the bargain!

At the end of the day gays or not they just didn't cut the mustard - huge shame :-(

i loved V as well - they should have gone a bit more funky and saved the ballad til later... Fools or Earth Wind and Fire would have made great singles choices...

Oh sorry dad! Rather than use the C word maybe i should dip into the rivets of English Literature to illustrate my pain in his existence. And so...

James Blunt is like a cancer on the proportions of Hamlet and his tragic house of Elsinore. His impact on our society is greater than that of Mein Kampf or the Bible.

Anyways, Paul I look forward to hearing this Debbie Gibson iconic album. Of course there CAN be underground iconism which only reveals its power once the artist is long vanished from life. Underground iconism requres tragedy, brilliance and history.

In 600 years time people might look back at Dannii's Get Into You and declare it the most important musical triumph since Mozart walked the planet. Who knows....One is now rambling on and on and on and on...

What is the Deborah song from? I never even knew that this song existed and was even more shocked that it was studio quality...

Ella - i could listen to you ramble on and on and on all day :)

Shawn - it was a track from some obscure japanese only release. i think its such a great song and could so with a radio mix to attract the kelly clarkson type of audience :)

i am absolutely in love with the deb song...its so different from anything else she has recorded. i love so much that she can be so versatile yet still maintain her style. and im so excited to have found another deb fan who loves her as much as i do!

stay tuned for a post on the genius of MYOB and some remixes/b-sides/unreleased tracks from that!

but you are right - portrait in loneliness is just such a great tune. i do think deb is so versatile and wish many others could see that too...
