hello folks! Thanks for all the well wishes - i am feeling somewhat better though not 100%... i spent a lot of the day doing this, drinking lots of this, flicking through the latest issue of this, reading the latest of these and watching several episodes of this...
and now for some music that is new to me but may be old to some of you....
McAlmont & Butler:
Years ago i fell seriously in love with their definitive single Yes and was chirping along to it for many a week. I do remember reading somewhere that they had new material that they were waiting to release, but didn't realise it was ready. Luckily The Daily Growl did and have posted a few new tracks that they played live on BBCRadio6. Apparently they are releasing this track (speed) as a single without it preceeding an album, just because they can.... perfect laid back summer listening
MP3: McAlmont and Butler - Speed
Bertine Zetlitz:
I had never heard of this woman before til XO did a post about her earlier this week... ironically the same day another friend emailed me her album Rollerskating, which i believe was out in 2004 (but i am willing to stand corrected on that!) The album as a whole is pretty good - she has mastered the template for a great pop album (see my forthcoming post on Light Years vs MYOB): some fast funky songs and a few gorgeous ballads. The standout track for me is Ah Ah which is also Jessica DP's fave track and you can see the stunning video over at XO...
MP3: Bertine Zetlitz - AH AH
Lucas Mire:
Lucas is a singer songwriter from atlanta, georgia and has a knack for creating melancholy, melodic music... the song below is just a lovely little number that draws you into its lyrics and tugs at the heart... He has an album coming out later this year called Forevers Not As Long As It Used To Be...
MP3: Lucas Mire - Swallowed
Alexis Strum:
Yes we are all still waiting for Alexis to be huge. Along with lorraine, the modern, veto silver, bwo, upper room et al... But poor Alexis has been ill, so here's to a speedy recovery and more great tracks like this...
MP3: Alexis Strum - Fairytale can go to hell
I am lame enough not to know the next record has a title.
Nice coup re La Strum, the most put-upon female artiste in years. We should chain ourselves to the doors of her crap label.
And it is funny to see Lorraine mentioned as well, in the same paragraph... seeing I might well have some interviews from both of them for The Hotstuff Files. Hopefully, in a Myspace thang.
samuel - it constantly frustrates me that alexis isn't huge when i know she could be if the record company released her album, promoted the heck out of it on tv by selling at £7.97. worked for nerina - who is super lovely...
