All hail the queen...

THE QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY

There is a popular myth that Freddie Mercury was one of pop's greatest closet cases, but he'd tell anyone who'd ask "gay? as a daffodil my dear." Today would have been the 60th birthday of one of pop's greatest showmen. To mark this royal occasion a dvd (lover of life, singer of songs), a book (i'm mr mercury: a life in his own words) and an exhibition of photographs at Proud Galleries in London as well as a charity performance of We Will Rock You will all pay tribute. A cd the very best of ... charts his solo recordings from collaborations with giorgio moruder to Barcelona and my v fave Living On My Own. Happy Birthday Mr Mercury :)

THE NEXT IN LINE

It seems appropriate that on Mr Mercury's would be birthday his secret love child should pop up in the form of 22 year old virtuoso Mika (pronounced Mee-kah fact fans). Ok, so there is no real relation to the flamboyant Queen frontman but he sure has a set of lungs just like him. Just listen to the brilliant pomp of Grace Kelly on his myspace site and you'll see what i mean. he's also blessed with a suitably stunning you-wouldn't-believe-it back story (born in beirut, grew up in the war, father held hostage in an embassy in kuwait, self imposed exile in paris before settling in london) and has a great catchy new single that Rob(o)pop accurately and scarily predicted i would like! Its called Billy Brown and is all about a straight guy who falls for another man! Genius!!

THE MAGAZINES

it's no secret that Entertainment Weekly is the greatest magazine on earth, and that rather nerdily i have every single Fall TV Preview edition dating back to 1993. This year, I am delighted to see McDreamy on the cover promoting season 3 of Grey's Anatomy which, like Felicity before it, has managed to keep a love triangle fresh and interesting way past the time our interest should have waned. After a heartbreaking season finale, i'm itching for it to return and (can't say too much as Ruthiepoos is only just on season one boxset!) and for MCDreamy to repeat the words Meredith said last year - "Pick me. Choose me. Love me." Sob.

Plus! I couldn't find an image yet so will upload one later, but little Glyn from Big Bro is on the cover of what used to be the greatest magazine Heat (but is now only 5th). I think he thinks he's bringing sexyback, but he's not. Bless him for trying though :)

COMING SOON!

our new sofa (its lovely!); deborahs other duets (its not just Jordan!); when greatest hits go wrong (i'm very pernickity!); fall tv preview (there's prison break, lost, desperate housewives and veronica too you know!); fall fashion (you gotta look good!) and some other stuff i probably haven't thought of yet...

Also, if your feeling low after coming back to this place(believe me I AM!)listen to the Spanish track Ultimo Adios which is like Viva Forever(its about a Summer fling in Spain)but actually in Spanish. Clever eh!!!

    Go here: http://dontstopthepop.blogspot.com/2006/09/natalia-ltimo-adios-loco-por-mi-bonus_02.html

Btw...do you his other tracks on mp3?

oh and heads up regarding Mika...if you sign up to his website you get a free track Stuck In the Middle which sadly is not a cover of the underrated Clea gem! It is however, I'm glad to say, just as good though!

Lovin' Mika. So much that I had to include him in my blog as well...
    Thanks for introducing me, Paul!

What can I say? Totally agree with the world about Mika being great, thanks for the introduction to him! With a background like that, he doesn't even sound like he should be a real person--more the protagonist of a spy movie or something :)
